Frequently Asked Questions

The first step to enjoying a healthy, happy smile starts here. We encourage patients to have checkup and clean appointments every six months. When you see us for a dental checkup, our dentist will first do a thorough assessment of your teeth and gums. Post examination, we will do X-rays or scans (if applicable) to ensure we catch any problems that can’t be seen with naked eyes, and then our dentists will discuss the results with you.

Following your treatment discussion, you will then have a thorough scale and clean and final polish by our gentle dentists. For routine appointments, you may not require X-rays each time. Our water spraying system will get into all the nooks and crannies of your mouth, wrapping up your appointment in about 30-45 minutes, and you will walk away with a clean smile and a customised treatment plan if necessary.

Yes. Kids who are 3 and older should come in twice a year for checkups. Regular visits with our dentist help promote good oral health habits and decrease any dental anxiety. If your child is prone to tooth decay, gingivitis or orthodontic problems, our dentist can begin a course of treatment early. Routine checkups will help your child smile brighter.

It’s important that you know your comfort is always under our consideration. No matter which procedure you have with us, we want you to complete it with ease. It’s no different when you have your tooth extracted. We’ll use a numbing agent to make sure that you are ready to proceed before we start the process. Afterwards, you’ll be given all the guidelines and instructions you need to ensure a quick recovery.

An extraction can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour. It is a same-day procedure and one of the most common oral surgery procedures here in our practice.

Usually when oral hygiene is not up to scratch, plaque buildup can occur, and over time it gets calcified into tartar by minerals in saliva. Tartar is a tough layer that grows over the gum line and teeth. It is hard like in texture and can only be removed during a thorough dental scale and cleaning. When plaque buildup and tartar occur, your body’s way of fighting it off is with inflammation. This is because it recognises it as something dangerous and unknown. The inflammation present will then cause damage to your gums and the bone, which can even result to tooth loss in severe cases. Gum disease may even lead to more serious health issues such as heart conditions, diabetes and other more serious health concerns.

If you suspect that you have gum problems, it’s essential to seek help right away. You don’t want to lose bone material or your gums, as they cannot grow back. There aren’t necessarily any warning signs, either. Gum disease is painless until it gets to a more severe stage. That’s why your regular checkups are vital to your oral and overall health.

Plaque buildup overtime causes gum disease and tooth decay. It shouldn’t, however, cause any pain. If you are experiencing pain, call us right away to book an appointment.

Some symptoms of gum disease include:

·        Bleeding gums after tooth brushing or flossing

·        Increasing spaces between the tooth and gum line

·        Receeding gums

·        Ongoing bad breath

·        Redness or inflammation around the gum line

·        Cold sores or mouth sores

·        Any sort of white pus between and around your teeth

If you’re experiencing any of the above symptoms, give us a call and we will book you in right away for treatment.

If tooth pulp becomes extremely inflamed or infected as a result of decay or damage, in order to get rid of the infection, the infected pulp will need to be removed to preserve the tooth and stop the infection from spreading.

Once the structure of your tooth has been reduced, you face having a weak tooth. A dental crown can restore the tooth, protecting it from breakage and ensuring that it’s strong again. The tooth is reduced into a smaller form. Then, a cap that looks like a hollow tooth is fitted onto it. You won’t have to worry about your dental crown being noticeable. It’s created to colour-match the rest of your teeth. Its shape will look perfectly natural so that nobody knows you have a crown. With the proper maintenance, your crown will last for years.

A dental implant is a titanium post that is surgically implanted in your jawbone. The bone grows around the implant, treating it like the root of a natural tooth. When the area has healed complete, you can have a crown, denture or bridge attached to the post. This step completes the process of getting your implant. The restoration that’s right for you will depend on how many teeth you need to replace.

We recommend screening at age 7. By the time they reach this age, most children have several permanent teeth.

Dental veneers are a thin covering that goes over the surface of your existing teeth. When applied, they can mask blemishes and make your teeth look gorgeous.

Those who can benefit most from veneers are people who have teeth that are discoloured, misshapen or cracked. Veneers are a long-lasting alternative to other forms of cosmetic treatment such as teeth whitening.  While teeth whitening certainly can improve the appearance of your smile, veneers can correct many cosmetic imperfections and help you achieve a beautiful, natural-looking smile.

If you’re unsure as to whether they could be right for you, book in for a consultation with our team.
